Born in Managua, Nicaragua she moved to Miami, FL with her family in June of 1978. In September of 1989 Maria Jose moved to Greenville, SC which has been her home ever since. While in Greenville she has been very involved in the community. Her professional career was in Financial Services, from 1989 to 2004. Due to an illness, Maria Jose had to cease all activities for a few years. She was considered a leader in the growing Greenville Hispanic community. Her involvements were wide and reached many. As an Associate Vice President/Investments of a powerful Financial Entity, she had the opportunity to meet, work and establish relationships with a diverse group of clients. She served as the Chairperson of the Hispanic Committee at the Greenville Chamber of Commerce when the Hispanic community started growing in Greenville. She was a member of the Downtown Sertoma Club from 1989 to 2004. She was instrumental in forming a board, which developed and presented the project for the first Hispanic Bank Branch in Greenville, SC to Capital Bank. She served in the Greenville Hospital System Diversity Advisory Council, as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation educational board.
Vanidades Magazine wrote an article about her career and personal accomplishments in their December 24th, 2002 issue; the magazine features stories of extraordinary Hispanic women around the world who overcame and attained success in their careers and their lives. Maria has a tremendous ability to identify needs and bring solutions that help both individuals and organizations.
